Obligatory Pumpkin Patch Photos

October feels more like fall then September did.  Last week I put a post about heading to Elgin for the fall festival at the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm.  Over the weekend it POURED rain here in Austin, so all the moms bailed on me because they were worried about mud.  THEY MISSED OUT.

We headed out there today on a beautiful cool overcast day.  They had all sorts of areas set up for photos, hayrides, train rides, pumpkin painting, face painting, playground equipment, corn mazes, and a petting zoo.

It was kind of fun that it was just me and Mimi.  It was like we were on a "mommy and me" adventure.  It was about a 45 minute drive out there, but we waited until after 10 to leave so traffic was not an issue.  

The farm kind of reminded me of fall in upstate NY where I grew up.   Because we had so much rain and clouds, it's been so cool here in Austin.  Mimi wore her lil' pumpkin shirt and brown cords.  It was fun to dress her in some "fall" clothes.   I on the other hand am glad I was not photographed.   Woke up this morning in a HORRID mood, so I threw on jeans and sneakers and a t-shirt and though who cares.  

Now we're home and Mimi is asleep and I'm going to take a long bath and clean up before dinner. Here are some photos from our day.

Painting her Pumpkin

I let Mimi pick out a pumpkin last week at the farmer's market and have been promising her all week she could paint it. Thursday was a doozy of a day.  I took  her to dance class, then we met our friend at the park, then home for lunch and nap. The nap part never occurred.  I HATE no nap days.  It doesn't happen all the time, but this was one of those days.  After struggling to get my little munchin to sleep for 2 hours I threw in the towel and prepped for the painting of the pumpkin.

She was beyond herself with excitement.  I put her smock on her and set up a plate with some washable fingerpaints of all sorts of colors.  I armed Mimi with a brush and we sat out on our front stoop and painted that poor pumpkin. lol

Today was a special treat, as my husband got a "free" day off.  He'd worked 60 hours weeks the last 2 weeks so his team got a comp day.  We took the train dowtown and went to the children's museum and had a nice lunch at Frank's.  When we got home we all took a 3 hour nap, I LOVE family nap days!  Now we're all snuggled in for a Friday night that feels like a Saturday night.  We have some apple cider in the fridge, our macintosh yankee candle is lit, the AC is finally off, and we are ready for fall!

I thought tomorrow was my 5K, but it's actually Sunday, lol.  So I'll be running Sunday morning even though my asthma is killing me with this cold from Mimi.  Wish me luck.

What I wore - Anniversary Dinner

We went to Uchiko last night for our anniversary dinner.  We had an amazing dinner!  We talked and laughed and reminisced about the last 9 years.  We talked about Mimi, expanding our family, moving, jobs, and life in general.  My husband had a fresh haircut and looked so cute in his sweater.   He even wore his wedding ring (which he normally doesn't because it's uncomfortable).  I'll show you what I wore.  I don't have a perfect body and I'm aware of that--yes I see that I have somewhat of a pooch, but I felt beautiful (and comfortable) and that's what matters.

3 Year Wedding Anniversary

Today marks 3 years of marriage for me and my husband.  Where has the time gone?  We were together 6 years before we got married, and now 3 years married.

Each year I spend with my husband I love him more and more.  We have grown so much together over the last 9 years.  He is my best friend.  My life (and heart) would be so empty without him.  I thank god everyday for sending him to me.  I could blog about how much I love him all day. I'll spare you.

Scarves = Play toys?

I got 3 "Pashmina" scarves off ebay from China that came in the mail today.  Are they real pashmina? Probably not.  Are they soft? You bet.  For under $5 each shipped, these scarves were a great deal.

My mom sends Mimi "presents" in the mail A LOT.  So every time we get a package, Mimi thinks it's a present from Grandma.  She gets so excited to get the mail with me because there might be a present for Mimi from Grandma.  Today the scarves came and she was so excited. She ran back to our apt and ripped them open and said "oooooo!"

She played with these scarves happily for over 30 minutes. Seriously.  I'm afraid she'll get upset when I actually want to wear them.

She kept saying she was  princess.  Maybe she gets this idea from Aladdin?

Even though she was a GIGANTIC GRUMPSTER DUMPSTER we went to Mimi's little friend's birthday party this afternoon. We were an hour late (in our true form) and made it in time to ride some rides and sing happy birthday.  My husband literally walked in the door as I was getting ready to leave so he came with me.  That totally helped handling our grumpster dumpster who didn't nap.

It was a cute little party for a very cute little girl.  I love this little girl's parents, they are the most wholesome people I've ever met and they are raising one adorable little girl.  Happy Birthday Allison!

Peer Pressure

I have this one friend here in Austin that somehow convinces me to do things I SO DON'T WANT TO DO.  It's like she uses car salesman tactics to guilt and convince me into doing these outings or meetups.

Weekends are kind of sacred to me.  When there is no schedule or structure to the day, it's pure bliss to me. It feels carefree and relaxed.  I think this feeling is left over from the days of me working fulltime for mr. asshole.  Most weekends we hang out in our pajamas, maybe go to jogging, have brunch, etc.  My husband had to work again today (UGH), so Mimi and I were on our own again.  My friend convinced me to go over to her house for this playdate.   I ended up having a goodtime (and Mimi as well), but I hate how she pressured me.  She never even asked me if I wanted to go, just kept sending me messages like "okay, see you on saturday" or "this is my address what time are you coming."

Now I have to head to a birthday party and Mimi never had time to nap and she's going to be a real firecracker and I dont' even have my husband to help me.  Part of me just really just wants to not go and apologize to my friend but I know she'll be disappointed if I don't go.

So off I go dragging my overtired toddler to a party where she'll no doubt be fed sugar and throw some sort of embarrassing tantrum.
